Official Flickerfest International Short Film Festival Launch Event

Celebrating its 24th year, Australia’s leading and most respected short film festival, FLiCKERFEST, Australia’s only Academy® accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival, kicked off last night in style!

Once again the official media launch took place at the beautiful Icebergs bar and dining room in Bondi beach kicking off the summer film festival season. Celebrities, industry VIP’s and film aficionados alike flocked to the iconic setting to enjoy and truly fabulous night of entertainment that included the official James Bond inspired FLiCKERFEST 2014 trailer and also a wonderfully hilarious short film starring the legendary Jacki Weaver titled Florence Has Left The Building.

FLiCKERFEST is second to none on the Australian short film festival circuit with loyal patrons of the event continuing to support the much loved and respected fixture on Sydney’s summer calendar. A selection of the festival’s fans who made it along to the launch included Wayne Blair, Samantha Harris, Alyssa McClelland, Rachel Coopes, Damian De Montemas, Janneke Williamson, George Mason to name a few. Summer was in the air as guests took in the wonderful views of Bondi whilst enjoying Vodka O cocktails.

Guests were treated to a screening of one of the highlights of the Australian competition short film the delightful comedy ‘Florence Has Left The Building, written and directed by Mirrah Foulkes and produced by Alex White. ‘It’s the annual Christmas eve concert at the Marigold House Assisted Living Facility. All her friends are dying and Florence wants out. When the facility double books two rival Elvis impersonators. Florence (Jacki Weaver) take the opportunity for one last hurrah’.

The official FLiCKERFEST trailer was also unveiled for the very first time last night to the packed room at Icebergs. This year, the much anticipated theme revolved around iconic film classic James Bond who descends upon our iconic Bondi beach in a brilliantly crafted comic parody. The trailer was directed by acclaimed director, Matt Moore and produced by Moth Projects and starred the legendary Robyn Nevin, much loved actor Rodger Corser and supermodel Samantha Harris. Matt won the Audience Award  for his comedy ‘Julian’ at Flickerfest 2012.

Festival director, Bronwyn Kidd, continues to be the driving force behind FLiCKERFEST and spoke to the crowd about the sensational year to come. Once again, Bronwyn and the selection committee have received record numbers of film submissions (over 2400 again this year!) and will tailor the 2015 programme to showcase the very best 100 films to audiences across Australia from January until May. Launching in Sydney on January 9th, FLiCKERFEST will run in Sydney for 10 days before taking the rest of the country by storm. The festival will screen to 50 venues across Australia.
