To enter your film you must fulfill the eligibility criteria and abide by the terms and conditions, below.

Flickerfest is an Academy® Award Qualifying and BAFTA Qualifying festival.
FLiCKERFEST, Australia’s premier international short film festival, will be held at the Bondi Pavilion on Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach in January 2022. The Festival in 2022 will celebrate 31 years of screening the best short films from Australia and around the world in competitions and special showcases. Following the Festival in Sydney, a selection of films will go on tour to 50+ capital cities and regional centres around Australia.

SAE FlickerUp 2022 competition in partnership with SAE Creative Media Institute is an Australian Youth & Schools Competition which screens at Flickerfest – open to films from students enrolled in primary or secondary schools in Australia, or individuals under 18. (This competition is divided into 2 sections: one for primary age & one for secondary age youth/students) films under 35mins.

For many filmmakers across the globe 2021 has been a strange and difficult year and we at Flickerfest understand that COVID-19 has put up some roadblocks for many filmmakers not being able to complete their shorts to schedule. Due to this we will be open to working with filmmakers in accepting late submissions and/or cuts of shorts for consideration providing that the finalised film can be delivered in a timely manner to screen in Bondi in January 2022 if selected.

Selected films will screen on Saturday 29th January 2022 at the festival at Bondi Beach followed by an award presentation with our jury.

SAE FlickerUp Jury
The SAE FlickerUp jury over the years has been led by industry professionals including: Eliza Scanlen (Little Women, Babyteeth), Hunter Page-Lochard (Cleverman, Brand Nue Dae), Odessa Young (Shirley, The Daughter), Marvin Rowland (The Gamers 2037), Morgan Davies (Stormboy), Jessica Ellicott (Transmission Films), James Fraser (December Boys), Harry Greenwood (Hacksaw Ridge), Mitzi Ruhlmann (Boys in the Trees), Morgan Griffin (The Sleepover Club), Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby, I am Number Four), Rahel Romahn (The Principal), Alice Keohavong (The Rocket), Renee Brack (SAE), Liron Gilmore (SAE).
- To be eligible for Flickerfest competitions all shorts must be no more than 35 minutes in length.
- All productions screened at Flickerfest 2020 must have been completed within 2 years of the entry closing date and must be in English or have English subtitles.
- All selected films must be available to screen on H.264 or ProRes file.
Films submitted for the School Students/Youth Competition do not have to adhere to the premiere guidelines. For any questions re eligibility please email [email protected]
HOW TO ENTER YOUR FILM
Flickerfest receives a large volume of enquiries regarding fee waivers.
As much as Flickerfest would like to give films a waiver, we cannot do so unless the circumstances are exceptional. Our entry fees go towards covering prizes for our Academy® qualifying and BAFTA recognised competition winners, accreditation and accommodation for selected filmmakers who attend the festival and general festival operation costs.

SAE FlickerUp 2022 Entries Now Open!
Entry Fee: USD $17 per film
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If your film is selected for competition or an out-of-competition showcase, you will be advised by 6th December, where possible. We will then require all successful entries to Flickerfest 2022 to complete an acceptance form to be emailed, faxed or posted back to us, and arrangements made for files to arrive at the festival before the Mon 13th December 2021.
Flickerfest expects selected filmmakers to provide a digital file for screening quality as either a H.264 or Apple Pro Res file. Australian filmmakers are expected to send files on hard drive or USB sticks. (in exceptional circumstances filmmakers can be provided with an FTP service)
Flickerfest Australian Tour
Following the festival, a selection of films screened in the International and Australian competitions plus some in out-of-competition programmes will be toured around Australia. If your film is unable to tour it WILL remain eligible for competition. All touring films will be paid screening royalties.
Filmmakers and Guests
Unfortunately we are unable to assist all filmmakers with their travel to or within Australia. However we will assist with accommodation for all international guests accredited to the festival and warmly welcome filmmakers who are able to attend the Festival or National Tour.
Rights Granted By The Producer
The Producer grants Flickerfest the right to reproduce part of their film (maximum 1 min) for the purposes only of promoting the festival. This may be as part of a compilation; for exhibition by any means including theatrical screening, internet; for cable, satellite, microwave or by any medium not yet devised.
