Flickerfest is an Academy Award® Qualifying and BAFTA Qualifying festival.
FLiCKERFEST, Australia’s premier international short film festival, will be held at Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach in January 2025. The Festival in 2025 will celebrate 34 years of screening the best short films from Australia and around the world in competitions and special showcases.

FlickerUp Entries
FlickerUp 2025 competition is an Australian Youth & Schools Competition which screens at Flickerfest – open to films from students enrolled in secondary schools in Australia, & individuals 18 years & under. Films to be under 35mins, completed in the last 2 years.

Selected films will screen in the FlickerUp programme on Saturday 25th January 2025 at the festival at Bondi Beach followed by an award presentation with our jury.
HOW TO ENTER YOUR FILM
Flickerfest receives a large volume of enquiries regarding fee waivers.
As much as Flickerfest would like to give films a waiver, we cannot do so unless the circumstances are exceptional.

FlickerUp Jury
The FlickerUp jury over the years has been led by industry professionals including: Eliza Scanlen (Little Women, Babyteeth), Hunter Page-Lochard (Cleverman, Brand Nue Dae), Odessa Young (Shirley, The Daughter), Marvin Rowland (The Gamers 2037), Morgan Davies (Stormboy), Jessica Ellicott (Transmission Films), James Fraser (December Boys), Harry Greenwood (Hacksaw Ridge), Mitzi Ruhlmann (Boys in the Trees), Morgan Griffin (The Sleepover Club), Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby, I am Number Four), Rahel Romahn (The Principal), Alice Keohavong (The Rocket), Renee Brack (SAE Creative Media Institute), Liron Gilmore (SAE Creative Media Institute).
ELIGIBILITY
- To be eligible for Flickerfest competitions all shorts must be no more than 35 minutes in length.
- All productions screened at Flickerfest 2025 must have been completed within 2 years of the entry closing date and must be in English or have English subtitles.
- All selected films must be available to screen on H.264 or ProRes 422 file.
Films submitted for the FlickerUp National Youth competition do not have to adhere to the premiere guidelines.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Film Selection
If your film is selected for competition or an out-of-competition showcase, you will be advised by Wednesday 11th December, where possible. We will then require all successful entries to FlickerUp 2024 to complete an acceptance form to be emailed, faxed or posted back to us, and arrangements made for files to arrive at the festival before the Wednesday 18th December 2024.
Selected Films
Flickerfest expects selected filmmakers to provide a digital file for screening quality as either a H.264 or ProRes 422 file. FlickerUp filmmakers are expected to send files on hard drive or USB sticks.
Filmmakers and Guests
Unfortunately we are unable to assist filmmakers with their travel within Australia. However we warmly welcome filmmakers who are able to attend the Festival. A complimentary double pass is provided for filmmakers to their screening.
Rights Granted By The Producer
The Producer grants Flickerfest the right to reproduce part of their film (maximum 1 min) for the purposes only of promoting the festival. This may be as part of a compilation; for exhibition by any means including theatrical screening, internet; for cable, satellite, microwave or by any medium not yet devised.
