Flickerfest & Specsavers TVC Competition 2026 Call for Entries

Submit Your ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers’ Short Film for Your Chance to Win up to $70k of a $150k prize pool – Entry is Free!

You know the ads. They’re the iconic Specsavers commercials featuring people caught in hilarious moments of sight error, prompting people to get their eyes tested. There’s the dad casting a line with his boat keys attached instead of a fishing lure. Or the lifeguard rescuing a baby seal from the surf.

These ads have been gracing Australian screens for over 15 years, and ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers’ has become part of our national vernacular. Now Specsavers have expanded their partnership with Flickerfest to give filmmakers an even greater opportunity to shine in 2026.

We’re inviting filmmakers across the country to become involved. We’re on the lookout for talented creatives who can deliver a completed 30 second short film in the spirit of a Should’ve gone to Specsavers TVC and leave a lasting impression. So grab a team and a camera and submit your own Should’ve film that delivers an entertaining, light-hearted sight gag, with “Should’ve gone to Specsavers” as the punchline and become part of the brand’s legacy.

We’ll be critiquing all of the entries and announcing five finalists who will all be showcased at Flickerfest’s prestigious Bondi event and be awarded $20k in cash for their efforts. We will then throw it to the public and ask them to vote on their favourite to see which of our five finalists is the major prize winner with a further $50k in cash up for grabs! All of the finalists may have the opportunity to be showcased on the national stage via paid media for the duration of 2026. It’s an incredible opportunity to shine on a national stage, showcase your skills and win up to $70k of a $150k prize pool.
