Today at FLiCKERFEST

Welcome to DAY 8 of the festival!A big day for filmmakers today as FLiCKERLAB brings together leading industry filmmakers to share their expertise across 4 sessions, covering all aspects of filmmaking. We’re excited to have among our special guests award-winning filmmakers Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) live from the USA and our own Kieran Darcy-Smith, (Wish You Were Here, By Way of Helena) in conversation with film writer Garry Maddox in The Director’s Journey. Later Michael Petroni (Backtrack, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader) will discuss writing process in From Idea to Page. It’s an unmissable day, and tickets will be available at the door.In the early evening we have Best of International 5, our final session of international shorts. A quick trip around the world with cinematic gems including the radical skate chick flickCrystal Lake from the US and French Revolution from Israel and we are thrilled to welcome director Hai Afik who has come all the way to Bondi to present his film to you.

Later to finish Friday with a serious laugh, a repeat screening of our popular comedy programme Short Laughs. Come along and enjoy some of the finest and funniest films you’ll see this year.

ImageFlickerUp – This session is a showcase of the finalist short films in our national schools competition for primary and secondary school students or filmmakers under eighteen years of age.  A fantastic celebration of creative story telling by young people!

ImageGreenFlicks – A powerful session of shorts with and environmental theme from Australia and around the world featuring the local short From Above that follows the journey of an aerial documentarian on a mission to protect the Tarkine Wilderness.

Image25th Anniversary Retrospective – To celebrate our 25th birthday we have put together a special Retrospective program of some of our faves from over the years. Check out the early works of some of Australia’s brightest cinema stars including Wayne Blair, Jennifer Kent, Nash Edgerton, David Michôd, Cate Shortland and more.
