Celebrities, industry VIP’s and film aficionados alike flocked to the iconic setting to enjoy and truly fabulous night of entertainment that included the official FLiCKERFEST 2014 trailer and also a wonderfully powerful short film titled Vote Yes that has been preselected for the 2014 program.
FLiCKERFEST is second to none on the Australian short film festival circuit with loyal patrons of the event continuing to support the much loved and respected fixture on Sydney’s summer calendar. A selection of the festival’s fans who made it along to the launch included, Miranda Tapsell, Shari Sebbens, Alyssa McClelland, Rob Carlton, Mirrah Foulkes, Rachel Coopes, Gregor Jordan and Sarah Wilson to name a few. Summer was in the air as guests took in the wonderful views of Bondi whilst enjoying Crystal Head Vodka cocktails, Little Creatures ale and cider, Rosnay Organic Wines, Phoenix Organic Juices and Charlie’s Water.
Guests were treated to the unveiling of the world premiere of short film ‘Vote Yes’, written and directed by Nick Waterman and produced by Melissa Beauford. The film is set in 1967 during Australia’s referendum on Aboriginal rights and stars Mirrah Foulkes and Miranda Tapsell as two women unite as a family come to terms with the prospect of change. A wonderfully powerful, moving and surprisingly uplifting film, Vote Yes will surely be a highlight of 2014 programme.
The official FLiCKERFEST trailer was also unveiled for the very first time tonight to the packed room at Icebergs. This year, the much anticipated theme revolved around the coveted cult classic, The Blues Brothers and saw them descend upon our iconic Bondi beach in a brilliantly crafted comic parody. The trailer was directed by acclaimed director, Alex Weinress and starred local favourites Emma Lung, Guy Edmonds, Matt Zeremes and Charlie Garber. Director Alex Weinress won the Jury Award for Highly Commended Australian Short Film at Flickerfest 2013.
