ON THE ROAD WITH #FLiCKERFEST2020!!

#Flickerfest 2020 had an amazing time on the road last week connecting with fabulous local filmmakers for our Best of Melbourne Shorts screening at the Kino Cinemas and sharing some incredible shorts from across Australian and around the world with our friends in Newcastle and Toowoomba!!  The Flickerfest bags are packed full of hot shorts once again, stopping off this week in Brisbane featuring some incredible shorts from Brissie filmmakers, Narrogin in Western Australia and Gunnedah, NSW.

BRISBANE – THURSDAY 20TH FEBRUARY

ImageThis coming Thursday night we will be stopping off at the Palace James St Cinema in Brisbane with our Best of Australian Shorts programme chock full of amazing shorts from local Brisbane filmmakers!

Catch the Flickerfest 2020 Best Short Australian Animation winner Rebooted from Melbourne director Michael Shanks alongside some fabulous shorts from local Brisbane filmmakers including My Name Is Mudju from Writer/Director Chantelle Murray, based on true events depicting The Stolen Generation in 1950’s Australia where Mudju’s daughter Munna has been stolen and helpless against the Mission governance she must find the strength within to reunite with her daughter.

From Writer/Director/Producer Matthew Johnstone we have comedy thriller Memoir Of A Haunting where post-movie drinks takes a dark turn for a group of friends after one of them reveals a troubling story of about her past.  It’s Christmas directed by Owen Smith and starring Gabriel Stoltz and Gary Sweet is the hilarious tale of Darren’s first Christmas with the in-laws.

NARROGIN – 20TH – 22ND FEBRUARY

ImageThis Thursday through to Saturday evenings we head to the Thornton Theatre in Narrogin kicking off with the Best of International Shorts programme on Thursday evening which includes the beautifully animated Mémorable from France which was awarded Best International Animated Short Film at Flickerfest 2020 and which was nominated for an Academy®Award for Best Short Animation.  The short takes you into the world of Louis, a painter who is experiencing strange events and whose world seems to be mutating.

On Friday evening catch the Best of Australian Shorts which includes the charming Chicken from Alana Hicks who was awarded Best Direction in an Australian Short Film at the Flickerfest Awards Ceremony in Bondi.  Perth filmmaking father and son team Jay Jay and Radheya Jegatheva will be present to introduce their beautiful animated short The Quiet.   As well as writing, directing and producing the film with his father Jay Jay, Radheya also composed the music for this stunning short for which he was awarded Best Original Music in an Australian Short Film at the Flickerfest Awards Ceremony in Bondi in January.

Following up is the Short Laughs Comedy programme which features Flickerfest 2020 Best EU Short Film winner The Land Over There (Drubenland) from Germany in which some ‘odd wall’ falls down and suddenly everything is in chaos.

GUNNEDAH – SUNDAY 23RD FEBRUARY

ImageThis Sunday we head slight inland NSW to the The Civic in the lovely Gunnedah with a full day of hot shorts with both the Best of Australian and Short Laughs Comedy programmes.

The Best of Australian Shorts programme includes The Egg by Jane Cho, given a special mention in the Best Australian Short category at Flickerfest 2020,  in which a young girl, bored and lonely in a world of foreign suburbia, becomes determined to claim a larger Easter egg as her own, under the watchful eye of an elderly woman and This Perfect Day by Lydia Rui – winner of Best Emerging Female director at Flickerfest 2020.

The Short Laughs Comedy programme features the fabulous animation Division Series from Korea, set in a KFC where Donald Trump and presidents from various countries play cards in an attempt to win the last chicken basket.
