Festival News – Day 7, Thursday 14 January

Today at FLiCKERFEST

Welcome to DAY 7 of the festival!Today a celebration of films from afar,  starting with Best of International 4, the fourth of five sessions showcasing international shorts in competition. Films are vying for two Academy® accredited awards – the Flickerfest Award for Best International Short Film and the Yoram Gross Award for Best International Animation.  Don’t miss Winter Light, currently in the running for an Oscar nod (nominations about to be announced!) and the hilarious and quirky Cherry Cake. Then we focus on Europe in Windows on Europe 1 and 2 – short films drawn from the European Union and presented in partnership with the European Union Delegation to Australia.Enjoy the quirky and funny Finnish film Do I Have to Take Care of Everything, nominated for an Academy® Award and the festival favourite, Pony Place from The Netherlands in the first session. Then stay on for Windows on Europe 2, with the delightful Italian film Two Left Feet and the suspenseful thriller The Last Will from Germany.These special showcase sessions are a real celebration of diverse story telling and all things European!

Coming up Friday

ImageFLiCKERLAB – A don’t-miss day dedicated to filmmakers and the craft of filmmaking. Spend the day with leading industry experts offering up their know-how, and talking intimately about their own filmmaking careers.

Join us in conversation with award-winning filmmakers Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and Dying Girl), live from the USA and our own Kieran Darcy-Smith (Wish You Were Here) as they chat about the director’s journey.

Across the day panels will explore all aspects of filmmaking including concept, script, producing, marketing and distribution and the latest cross platform and alternative distribution methods.

Finishing up with a round of industry drinks so you can get networking.

ImageShort Laughs (repeat session) – Back by popular demand, this session is jam packed with funnies from around the world. MeetHerman the German and find out if Satan Has A Bushy Tail and check out the latest from Brendan Cowell and Matt Day a short–film about a short-filmmaker’s short film.
