18th January 2018

TOP-SHELF THURSDAY ENTERTAINMENT AT FLICKERFEST!

We’re mixing things up a bit tomorrow at Flickerfest Thursday as the competition screenings slowly come to a close and we introduce some of our amazing special showcase programmes.

Today we will take you around the world once again with the final in-competition International programme Best of International 5 featuring the stunning coming of age U Plavetnilo (Into the Blue) all the way from Croatia and the awesome Compartments, the very first German-Israeli animation co-production!!

From Pixar artist Trevor Jimenez comes the hand-animated Weekends.  Set in 1980’s Toronto, the short follows the story of a young boy shuffling between the homes of his recently divorced parents, mixing “surreal dream-like moments with the domestic realities of a broken-up family.”

Laugh yourself silly with the Belgium charmer Le Scenariste (The Screenwriter) centred around writer Jonas who is struggling to finish a script and is ordered by his producer to employ the talents of a Parisian scriptwriter to help him.  The scriptwriter arrives at Jonas’s house and brings with him mayhem, but perhaps also a touch of inspiration!

Following on with some more great stories from the European Continent is the first of our European shorts programmes with the Best of EU Shorts 1 at 6.30 pm including the BAFTA nominated Wren Boys out of Ireland which drew amazing applause at our Opening night highlights screening and has been talked of often since!!

From fellow Irish filmmaker Benjamin Cleary, winner of the 2016 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short film with Stutterer, comes Wave, centred around a man who wakes from a coma speaking a fully formed but unrecognisable language! Screening alongside the Irish contingent will be shorts from Germany, Poland, Croatia, Denmark and the United Kingdom, taking you on a journey across Europe in a matter of hours; including the award-winning German animation, Sog.!!

Cap the evening off with a bit of romance with our Love Bites showcase programme!!  From Australia we have the heart warming Mrs McCutcheon starring some well known Aussie TV faves Nadine Garner and Virginia Gay along with some incredible performances from some bright up and coming young stars!

From Sweden comes the hilarious and warm Onskedrommar (Make A Wish) in which an elderly couple whose simple lives are turned around after the wife wishes to be visited by the hunky young guy TV show host!!

For the romantically inclined the evening will culminate with our showcase programme Love Bites, a collection of shorts from across the world that is sure to set the scene for an evening of romance!
