We honour Survival-day weekend at Flickerfest with our Indigenous Spotlight programme, showcasing an incredible collection of fresh indigenous shorts handpicked from across Flickerfest 2025, recognising our most talented indigenous creatives, both in front of and behind the camera. Highlights include the World premieres of Ornmolfrom talented Dir/Wri/Prod Marlikka Perdrisat, screening alongside the delightful animated story set in the bright lights of Alice Springs The Fix-It-Man and Fix-It Wooman by Cornelius Ebatarinja, Nelson Armstrong and team, and don’t miss the moving Echoes of Dissent which explores the inspiring life story of Anthony Martin Fernando, an Aboriginal man who dedicated his life to protesting Indigenous rights in Europe. Flickerfest is celebrating LGBTQI+ stories through our Rainbow Shorts programme from at home and the world for the 8th year. Curated by Sydney-based queer director, Craig Boreham who sees this year’s line-up as a “real window into the global LGBTIQ+ world right now.” Highlights include the delightful Dragfox exploring Sam’s search for identity which gets interrupted by a mysterious fox (voiced by Sir Ian McKellan) and don’t miss the fun-loving French film, Chico where lead Jojo goes on a crazy quest around Brussels.

Keep a keen eye on the beautiful Ripe! set in Spain during a romantic summer of love, then keep the love flowing with the fun french film Loverdance, and be surprised by what happens when fate collides during a 24 hour dance marathon. And finally catch the world premiere of Australian short Don’t You Dare Yuck My Yum exploring the complex and at times hilarious nature of two couples exploring non-monogamous relationships.

As Australia’s only Academy® Qualifying and BAFTA recognised short film festival we are thrilled to welcome an exceptional team of industry experts on our jury this year.
Joining the jury for our Academy® Qualifying Australian Shorts competition are esteemed industry members acclaimed actress and star of ‘Strictly Ballroom’, Tara Morice, Award-winning producer Mahvreen Sharaki, (Ellie and Abbies Dead Aunt, The Rooster) and Head of Development at Screen Australia, Bobby Romia.
Our International Jury includes accomplished actor Remy Hii, (Arcane, Aftertaste, Spider Man) acclaimed Australian writer/director, Dane McCusker (The Big Dog) and award-winning writer/director and series creator Vanessa Gazy, (Echoes), who will make make the big decisions in our Academy Qualifying® International Competition.
Our Academy® Qualifying Documentary competition Jury will be helmed by film industry and documentary veteran, James Bradley, the Emmy-winning storyteller Aaliyah-Jade Bradley Darling, who is most recognised for producing the film Harley & Katya in 2022 and her intricate storytelling through the humanity of the First Nations peoples.
Our Rainbow Shorts competition boasts a fabulous jury made up of Australian icon and celebrated ex-ruby-player -turned-actor Ian Roberts (Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities, Saltwater, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones) and Zindzi Okenyo (ABC’s Playschool, Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner), NIDA graduate and theatre actress, director, co-director and musician. Joining them is Patrick (Pat) Abboud a Walkey-winning filmmaker, writer, director and presenter who was awarded the LGBTQIA+ Media Disrupter of The Year in 2024 and Andrea Ulbrick, the Investment Manager in Screen Australia’s Narrative Content Department.
Celebrating the young filmmakers of tomorrow, our FlickerUp competition awards will be in the hands of Ruby Challenger, stage production director and co-producer, Mum and social media icon (MumLife), Ed Oxenbould, renowned actor (Puberty Blues, Paper Planes, Wildlife and The Visit) and Sherry-Lee Watson, a breakthrough screen actress and Arrente woman from Alice Springs (Netflix series, Heartbreak High).
We wish all our esteemed jury members the very best in making some very big decisions over the coming weeks! The awards will be presented at our Closing Night Awards Screening and Party on Sunday the 26th of January.
