29th May 2026
May has been super busy with Flickerfest touring to eight incredible venues right across the country, sharing the very best in Australian and international short films with audiences from city cinemas to regional communities.
We’re wrapping up May in the beautiful outback town of Lightning Ridge with our special 35th Anniversary Retrospective Shorts programme, screening on Saturday 30th May under the stars and celebrating some of the extraordinary filmmakers whose early films starred at Flickerfest and who have gone on to shape the Australian film industry both here and internationally.
Featuring standout award-winning films from directors including David Michôd, Mirrah Foulkes, Nash Edgerton, Rachel Griffiths, Warwick Thornton, Adam Elliott and Bluey creator Joe Brumm and starring screen icons including Joel Edgerton, Jackie Weaver, Damon Herriman, Aaron Pedersen and more, it’s a dazzling showcase of Australian storytelling and cinema legends both in front of and behind the camera, under the outback stars.
Looking ahead to June, Flickerfest continues its national tour with Kununurra, Newcastle and Hobart on the itinerary, bringing more incredible screenings, local stories and celebrations of short film across the country.
Stay tuned, more exciting news, Flickerfest will be launching our 2027 festival Call for Entries in June!

We were so lucky to have so many filmmakers joining us in person to introduce their work, share stories, and connect with audiences in those post-screening chats that always end up being just as memorable as the films themselves. And we’re not slowing down anytime soon… May is shaping up to be a big one as the tour keeps rolling and we zigzag across the country, heading to Alice Springs, Adelaide, Canberra, Huskisson, Narrogin, Toowoomba and Wollondilly. It’s going to be full of road trips, regional gems, and plenty more unforgettable Flickerfest screenings ahead and we can’t wait to see you there!
