Hello Flickerfest Friends,
Thanks everyone for making our national tour 2024 such a success With over 40 venues enjoying the short film magic across Australia so far, we’re now on the final leg of our cinema adventure, with 11 screenings to come in August and September.
We’ll be wrapping things up with stops in Broome WA, Cairns QLD and Cygnet in the beautiful south of Tassie, with a couple of regional halls in NSW, Maules Creek, Pilliga and Ulong along the way. You will also be able to catch encore screening’s of our Best of International Shorts and Rainbow Shorts at Waverley Council library theatrette this September.

Meanwhile, the entries for Flickerfest 2025 are rolling in and what a stellar crop we’ve seen so far! If you haven’t submitted your short film masterpiece yet, there are just three weeks left to take advantage of our September 11th discounted early bird rate.

Hello Broome Friends,
We are absolutely thrilled to bring our National Tour back to Sun Pictures in Broome. Join us for an unforgettable night featuring our much-loved Indigenous Spotlight Shorts and Best of Australian Shorts programmes – packed with award-winning films straight from our Bondi festival, including the incredible talents from WA!
Kicking off at 6:15pm, the Indigenous Spotlight Shorts will dazzle you with nine multi-award-winning films. Don’t miss the local favourites Marlu Man, a black comedy by Broome’s own Zac James and Brooke Collard, and Pressure & Release, produced by Jodie Bell, starring local legend Dr. Juli Coffin. Plus, catch WA film To Be Silent by Noongar/ Spinifex filmmaker Tace Stephens – it’s a lineup you won’t want to miss!
Then, at 8:30pm, dive into the Best Of Australian Shorts, a collection that celebrates the heart and soul of our culture. Enjoy standout films including Cold Water, starring the iconic Bruce Spence, the hilarious Ashes with Michael Caton, and Yeah The Boys, which snagged the Panasonic Award for Best Australian Short Film. Plus, we’re screening Flickerfest favourite Raising Thunder, crafted by WA’s own Kaleb McKenna.
It’s all happening in one night – two incredible showcases you won’t want to miss! See you there!

Tassie friends, if you couldn’t make it to our sold out screenings in Hobart, we’ve got some fantastic news for you! Flickerfest is headed to the Cygnet Town Hall! Teaming up with the Cygnet Arts Council for two unforgettable nights of cinema magic across 2 big weekends that you don’t want to miss!
On Saturday 24th August, 6pm – Get ready for a global adventure, we’re bringing you the Best of International Shorts. This selection of nine incredible films will take you on a captivating journey across the globe, from India to Ireland. We can’t wait to share these films with you.
Then, on Saturday 31st August, 6pm – The following week, we’re showcasing the best in local talent with Flickerfest’s Best Of Australian Shorts. Experience outstanding Aussie storytelling with award-winning films, including 5 stunning stories and teams that share a special Tassie connection. It’s an evening to celebrate the creativity of your local film scene!
Join us for two nights of award-winning, inspiring, and fresh short films, straight from their premieres at Flickerfest Bondi. Don’t miss out on this cinematic journey through contemporary shorts from Australia and around the world!

We’d love for you to join us at the Cairns Botanical Gardens on September 6th and 7th for an unforgettable weekend of award-winning short films!
On Friday, We’re kicking things off with the Best of Australian Shorts. Come celebrate the amazing talent emerging from our own backyard. We’re especially excited to showcase two standout films from North Queensland and the Torres Strait: Djalbuyan Nahra by young First Nations filmmaker Jahvis Loveday, a touching story about family and reconnecting with culture, and Just Beneath The Surface, a visually stunning short from Erub in the Torres Strait, by award winning artist and filmmaker Jimmy John Thaiday, who will be joining us on the night! Plus much more!
Then on Saturday, get ready for a night of laughs with our Short Laughs Comedy program! We’ve put together a clever and quirky mix of funny shorts from around the globe. You’ll love the UK short Linda by comedian Joe Lycett, the true story of a 1932 bank heist in Cloncurry in the QLD film The Bank Manager starring Gyton Grantly, and the hilarious NZ film Good Luck, a must-see for anyone curious about what life’s like for newborns.
It’s going to be two nights of film magic and we’d be thrilled to have you with us! Can’t wait to see you there!

Flickerfest is thrilled to partner with the NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service for the ‘Lights Camera Donate!’ Youth Short Film Competition! This unique opportunity allows young filmmakers across NSW and Australia to showcase their talent and make a life-saving impact.
Unleash your creativity and use your storytelling skills to inspire change. Create compelling films that encourage others to register as organ and tissue donors and spark important conversations with their families. By participating, you can amplify your voice, connect with a network of talented filmmakers, and expand your audience reach.
With fantastic prizes up for grabs ~ $5000 in the Open Category and $2500 in the Under 18 Category ~ this competition is a fantastic chance for young creatives to make a real impact. Entries are open until November 1st, and the winners will be announced on January 25th. Don’t miss out on the chance to have your work recognised and contribute to an important cause!
