FLiCKERFEST 2021 ICONIC THEME REVEALED

FLiCKERFEST 2021 ENTRIES OFFICIALLY CLOSED – STAY TUNED FOR PROGRAMME ANNOUNCEMENTS!

In what has been a massive year across the globe we have been blown away by both the quantity and quality of entries that have flooded in from near and far for Flickerfest 2021!!   We have had over 2,700 entries and our programming team have the popcorn at hand getting together an incredible programme of hot shorts that will grace the big screen at Bondi this January.

In 2021 Flickerfest will hand pick 200 of the very best, most innovative, provocative and hugely entertaining shorts for the big screen experience, all guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and gasp with delight! Supported by Waverley Council, Flickerfest will then kick off the summer cinema season in a Covid safe enchanting pop up festival garden under the stars and under The Famous Spiegeltent, park side at Bondi Beach from the 22nd through to the 31st January 2021 before touring over 45 venues across Australian between February and October.

Our thanks goes out to all of the filmmakers who’ve submitted this year, our fantastic selection committee members who’ve been glued to their screens the last couple of months and our incredible programming team who are now hard at work  putting together a wonderful program for us all.

Flickerfest 2021 Trailer shoot picYes, our ears are alive with the sound of music, and short film as our Flickerfest 2021 Festival & Tour trailers wrap celebrating yet another ode to an iconic film, our very own  tribute to Baz Luhrman’s iconic classic ‘Moulin Rouge’. We can’t wait to share our modern day loved-up Satine & Christian in a perfect nod to our glam new 2021 venue The Famous Spiegeltent!

Written & directed by Flickerfest alumni Rebekah Jackson, & produced by Elaine Beckett of Trackdown and Angus Young of Brew Casa, our Moulin Rouge tribute features the wonderful talents of Tysan Towney, Ariane Sallis & Stephen Hunter and was made possible by some incredible supporters including Trackdown StudiosSpectrum FilmsThe Solid StateBrewcasa CreativePanavision, & Chicken & Chips Casting with photography by Alina Gozina.

FLiCKERFEST 2020 TOUR – THAT’S A WRAP!

After a hectic year on the road with a few delays, and a lot of rescheduling along the way, the Flickerfest 2020 tour has reached the finish line on its journey around Australia taking stacks of hot shorts from the Bondi competition programmes to towns small and large along the way!

We capped off the 2020 Tour last week at HOTA on the Gold Coast with a second screening due to popular demand after the initial screening in October sold out!  Over the last month we have taken our much loved shorts to Alice SpringsKatherineCairns and Kalgoorlie and stopped off in our capital city of Canberra with the ASEAN Shorts programme.

Thanks everyone for coming out to support and share Flickerfest across the country and to all of our tour partners who adapted to the challenging times to share Flickerfest in their town

We look forward to journeying around Australian once again in 2021, celebrating 30 years and  taking the very best in short film on tour to a town near you!  Stay tuned!
