FLiCKERFEST HEADS TO FINAL WEEKEND

It’s Friday and only 2 more days until our Closing Night and what an amazing festival its been! 

This long weekend is going to be rich with inspiring and entertaining shorts, with something for everyone, including family films, youth filmmaking, incredible first Nations talent, the best of EU shorts, laugh out loud comedy and more…

At 6.30pm, experience an incredible selection of Indigenous stories at our Indigenous Spotlight as we honour Survival Day and celebrate the resilience and endurance of incredible First Nations culture. Travel to the harsh and beautiful Kimberley region of Western Australia in the captivating short Pressure And Release, feel the power of nature in the latest short from Erub filmmaker Jimmy John Thaiday, Just Beneath The Surface, and admire the richness of Tjawina’s knowledge and skill in the powerful storytelling of Tjawinaku Tjukurrpa.

At 9pm, spend the night under the stars and experience the joyful and romantic at our stunning LoveBites Shorts. Watch Chiara experiencing her first infatuation in Biglove from Italian director Cristiano Gazzarini and don’t miss out on the hilarious romantic comedy Just Kidding, I Actually Love You from NZ director Anna Rose Duckworth. We are also thrilled to be presenting the world premiere of inspiring French romantic short Anima and even more thrilled to have directors Rebecca Obadia and Mimi Roberts here to introduce their film. Come along and meet them! 

And don’t forget nothing rains on Flickerfest’s short film parade! If the clouds are bursting our indoor theatre is cosy and beckoning.

At 1.30pm, embark on an adventurous and fun journey with our uplifting and delightful kids focused session! Speed to outer space with Mr Chicken Goes To Mars, by best-selling kids author Leigh Hobbs, The Chameleon will impress you with his incredible camouflage skills! Catch the moon with little spider Temi in the adorable short Swing To The Moon and don’t miss out on the World Premiere of Atomic Chicken. This family session is not-to-be-missed.

At 4pm, dive into our National Youth competition FlickerUp and be amazed by emerging talent 18 and under. Don’t miss out on the charming and delightful Fever Bloom, go on the wild ride with fun short The Noonday Demon, dive into the supernatural and intriguing The Locket, and the rebellious short Pasta Privilege. ‘Emma, Ethan, and Angus are three average high school students fed up with the social hierarchy. But when they make an unexpected discovery, things may be about to change.’


BEST OF EU SHORTS SHOWCASE

At 6.30pm, travel across the European Union and experience its rich cinematic tradition with 9 stunning short films, all handpicked from Flickerfest’s International Competition . Catch the fun and richly ironic Swedish comedy The Film Might Be White, the captivating Irish drama Clodagh, from talented director Portia A. Buckley and the moving Danish short From Above and many more…

At 9pm, brighten up your weekend with some laugh out loud comedy. Catch the hilarious friendship short Room For One More, the heartwarming Irish musical short Cantata and go on an unforgettable journey filled with sceptical agents, wide-eyed producers, and flamboyant acting teachers in Arnold: The Unreal Story. All the way from South Australia this extremely hilarious and clever mockumentary about Arnie’s life takes us back to 1979, when a young bodybuilder named Arnold dreams of becoming the biggest movie star of all time.
