May has been super busy with Flickerfest touring to eight incredible venues right across the country, sharing the very best in Australian and international short films with audiences from city cinemas to regional communities. We’re wrapping up May in the beautiful outback town of Lightning Ridge with our special 35th Anniversary Retrospective Shorts programme, screening on Saturday 30th May under the stars and celebrating some of the extraordinary filmmakers whose early films starred at Flickerfest and who have gone on to shape the Australian film industry both here and internationally.Featuring standout award-winning films from directors including David Michôd, Mirrah Foulkes, Nash Edgerton, Rachel Griffiths, Warwick Thornton, Adam Elliott and Bluey creator Joe Brumm and starring screen icons including Joel Edgerton, Jackie Weaver, Damon Herriman, Aaron Pedersen and more, it’s a dazzling showcase of Australian storytelling and cinema legends both in front of and behind the camera, under the outback stars. Looking ahead to June, Flickerfest continues its national tour with Kununurra, Newcastle and Hobart on the itinerary, bringing more incredible screenings, local stories and celebrations of short film across the country.Stay tuned, more exciting news, Flickerfest will be launching our 2027 festival Call for Entries in June!

Kununurra, we’re back at the KNX Picture Gardens on Friday 5th June at 6:00pm for a special night of Flickerfest under the stars.
The Best of Australian Shorts programme brings a handpicked selection of fresh, award-winning Australian films to the East Kimberley, full of bold, funny and moving stories.
Highlights include WA film Without White Clovers, directed by Perth’s Cooper Clarke and starring Peter Rowsthorn (Kath & Kim), is a powerful, true story inspired film about two brothers and the emotional distance between them after an unexpected message forces a moment of reckoning and reconnection, alongside an exceptional line up of Australian shorts featuring standout talent both in front of and behind the camera.
Bring your deckchair, gather your friends, and join us for a one-night-only celebration of Australian storytelling under the Kimberley sky.

Local Talent Shines in Adelaide!

Newcastle friends, we’re back on Saturday 6th June at 6:30pm and 9:00pm at the Civic Theatre for a huge night of Flickerfest magic.
At 6:30pm, we are kicking off with the Best of Australian Shorts Newcastle, we’re thrilled to celebrate three films with strong Newcastle connections, I’m Sorry For Your Loss by Newcastle-raised filmmaker Stephen Di Gravio, Anna & Alfonso by director Anna Outridge who spent her teen years here, and Nothing And The Sun starring Newcastle’s own rising talent Nicholas Davies. It’s a brilliant lineup of local stories alongside some of the best short films from across Australia.
Then from 9pm, stick around for our Short Laughs Comedy session, featuring a riotous mix of off-kilter shorts from around the world, including the Oscar-winning The Singers, along with audience favourites and award winners to keep you giggling into the night.
Toast to 35 years of Flickerfest with a complimentary drink between sessions, included in your ticket, soak up the festival atmosphere, and meet the filmmakers and Flickerfest team who’ll be there on the night to introduce their films for a brilliant evening of cinematic magic.

Hobart friends, we’re so excited to be returning to The Peacock Theatre at Salamanca Arts Centre on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June for two huge nights celebrating the very best in short film from Australia and around the world.
On Friday night, Global stories, bold voices and familiar faces take the spotlight with Flickerfest’s Best of International Shorts programme, bringing together acclaimed films from around the world featuring Oscar winners, award-winning filmmakers and beloved screen talent.
For our Best of Australian Shorts Tassie programme on Saturday night, we’re delighted to showcase Alfredo, the warm and relatable family dramedy directed by Hobart born filmmaker Michael Chrisoulakis, who grew up on the Eastern Shore in Howrah before beginning his filmmaking journey in Tasmania. Starring Fiona Press and Francis Greenslade, Alfredo sits alongside an incredible lineup of Australian shorts including the Flickerfest 2026 Best Short Film winner Boy On Fire. With a stellar programme that brings together a standout mix of bold new voices and much loved Australian screen talent, both in front of and behind the camera, for a rich, entertaining and emotionally resonant collection of stories.
Come early, grab a drink at Tricycle Café and settle in with fellow film lovers for two very special winter nights at the theatre.

Flickerfest is on the move, with the festival continuing its national tour right through to early September 2026.
