Thank you to all who came to celebrate the launch of Flickerfest 2024 at our Sold Out Opening Night last night. We were thrilled to welcome so many excited filmmakers, audience members and festival partners and share a taste of our festival to come over the next 9 days. So much fun was had under the stars and we received an enthusiastic reception to the films screened, loved by all in attendance.Stay tuned opening night pics are coming soon! We cant wait to kick off our Academy Qualifying Australian and International programs today.  Read on for some weekend highlights. BEST OF INTERNATIONAL SHORTS 2

At 1.30pm enjoy the Best Of International Shorts 2 in our air-conditioned theatre at Bondi Pavilion. Highlights include the sweet love story of a man for whom music is everything in The One Note Man, directed by George C. Siougas, recently shortlisted for an Oscar! and experience the unexpected with the Australian Premiere of Mothers & Monsters, by talented Canadian director Edith Jorischis. Mothers & Monsters take us on an incredibly stylish journey through futuristic motherhood and is not to be missed!

BEST OF DOCUMENTARY SHORTS 1

At 4pm, book your tickets to the Best Of Documentary Shorts 1, featuring the best of International & Australian Documentary short films in competition, with International & Australian filmmakers vying for the prestigious Flickerfest Academy Qualifying Award for Best Documentary, The highly humorous Been There takes us on city breaks into nature and around the world where tourist’s beat a well worn path, from the award-winning Swiss director Corina Schwingruber. Be amazed by the astounding short Fata Morgana, where the filmmaker Daood Alabdulaa enjoyed unparalleled access to the world of undocumented workers in Kuwait, going on a risky journey to bring his short film to life!


BEST OF DOCUMENTARY 2 SHORTS

At 6.30pm join us for the screening of Best Of Documentary Shorts 2, in competition See the moving, intimate and unforgettable short Finding Alaa where a families life is torn apart by a terrorist attack in France and a unique road to healing emerges. Dive into the clever short The Veiled City inspired by London’s Great Smog of 1952, which invites us to understand the past in the context of the present-day climate crisis.


BEST OF AUSTRALIAN 4 SHORTS

At 9pm, enjoy the Best Of Australian Shorts 4, under the stars, featuring the best of Australian short films in competition. Our home-grown talent battle it out for the prestigious Panasonic Award for Award for Best Australian Short Film, Academy Qualifying. Highlights include the ironic and humorous short Blind Bargain which takes us behind the scenes of the online marketplace and the bizarre relationships that emerge. 

And don’t miss the stunning Our Haunt a fresh, contemporary horror from Daniel Reisinger, who recently directed the British Dramedy AND MRS for Universal and SIDESWIPED starring Jason Sudeikis. With Zara Newman (Wentworth, Long Story Short) and Multi Logie winner Stephen Peacocke (Five Bedrooms, RFDS) ‘Our Haunt’ will have you second guessing the squeaks and sounds in your own house.
