With over 210 shorts screening across 24 competitive programmes and showcase sessions, Flickerfest 2024 features a glittering line-up in an astounding programme of the best short films from at home and the world selected from a record 3,400 entries.

Join the filmmakers and stars on the red carpet under the stars at iconic Bondi Beach for the Flickerfest 2024 Opening Night Gala. Choose a screening only ticket to catch an eclectic and inspiring preview screening of festival highlights or grab a very limited ticket to both the screening and fully catered opening night after party and relax after the screening, as you mingle with the stars of the film industry at our Flickerfest palm-fringed bar in the Bondi Pavilion, Lawn Courtyard.

Our delightful programme of 10 animated shorts for shorties and families will be appeal to the kid in everyone, through a programme of charming shorts from across the world. Highlights includes the charming animation Mr Chicken Goes To Mars from Australian Director Katrina Mathers and award-winning author Leigh Hobbs and the delightful Australian short Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by award-winning author Mem Fox, directed by Hattie Archibald!


TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION IN OUR DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION PROGRAMMES

Catch two inspiring programmes featuring 16 amazing real stories from at home and across the world, all vying for the prestigious Academy® qualifying award for Best Documentary Short, including
the extraordinary and heartwarming story of a young Afghani boy directed by Bondi local Lester Jones in Finding Home. And follow the inspiring women of Gunbalanya in their quest to preserve their age-old tradition in Kala Kunbolk (Colour of Country).


JOURNEY ACROSS EUROPE WITH THE EU SHORT FILM SHOWCASE!

Don’t miss this incredible cinematic celebration of all things Euro and Flickerfest in this programme showcasing the best of moving and entertaining shorts from the European Union countries, all competing for the EU Delegation to Australia Award for Best EU Short Film. Highlights include the surprising and funny Swedish short The Film Might be White, directed by the filmmaker Sebastian Johansson Micci and the powerful Spanish world premiere, questioning race and economy, The Masterpiece, by Àlex Lora.


CATCH THE BEST SHORT FILMS FROM ACROSS AUSTRALIA!

An incredible 62 shorts from across Oz will be in the running for the Academy® Qualifying Panasonic Australia LUMIX Award for Best Australian Short Film.Highlights include the world premiere of the outstanding drama Unspoken, set in the 80s amongst the Australian Croatian community and starring an incredible ensemble cast, written/directed by critically acclaimed actor, director and Flickerfest Alumni Damian Walshe-Howling and the stunning choreographic look at male drinking culture Yeah The Boys directed by Stefan Hunt, with a killer soundtrack from The Avalanches.

Forty-two hot shorts from countries far and wide that will make you shed a tear, laugh-out-loud or inspire you in our Academy® Qualifying International competition including include the world premiere of the UK short My Week With Maisy starring a heartwarming performance from Joanna Lumley, the Australian premiere of the profound animation War Is Over, made in collaboration with Sean Lennon and Yoko Ono and delightful Irish film Mud Queen.
