Dear film friends with we’ve travelled the country sharing our fabulous shorts on the big screen at 12 Flickerfest venues this March.

It’s been great to share so many local, national and international films with our audiences, host filmmaker introductions, masterclasses and more. 

Thanks to everyone who came along and to all of our Flickerfest partners and incredible filmmakers who make it possible.

There’s still one more March venue to go and tonight, Thursday 28th March you can catch our Short Laughs Comedy programme in Noosa Queensland, don’t miss these heartwarming and hilarious stories on the big screen.

Spend two exciting cinematic nights at Palace James St Cinemas with Flickerfest!

On Thursday 4th April, 7.00pm join us for a complimentary pre-screening drink and toast to the talent in our Best of Australian Shorts programme, shining a spotlight on the incredible short film talent that exists in our emerging Australian industry,  Don’t miss our Flickerfest award winners and festival favourites including Yeah The Boys  winner of the Panasonic Award For Best Australian Short Film and the moving and poignant Cold Water , starring the legendary Bruce Spence (Mad Max) winner of AFTRS Best Original Screenplay.   

Highlights also include 5 stunning Flickerfest films from Queensland creative teams, including the humorous online dating comedy Sideswipe, directed by Tyson Yates and produced by Kristie Yates, The Bank Manager directed by Madeleine Chaplain and produced by Luke Chaplain, the touching relationship drama Quiet Night Though  with award-winning cinematography from Brisbane’s Kevin Nguyen and editing from Sophie Daulby, the contemporary thriller The Other Guy by writer/director/producer Ken Kimura and thought provoking drama Unsettled, by director Katrina Channells and writer Joe Hinchcliffe 

On Friday, travel to Europe with 8 stunning films in the Best Of EU Shorts Showcase presented by the Delegation of the European Union to Australia. Highlights include award-winning shorts including: I Am Not A Robot, awarded Best EU Short 2024. After several unsuccessful attempts to complete a Captcha, feminist Lara sets out to answer the disturbing question of whether she’s a robot, in the thought provoking Danish/German film, A Study Of Empathy a fascinating reflection on the hypocrisy of the human heart, winner of our Oscar Qualifying Best International Short Film. .

We are thrilled to be back for the 18th year at Kino Palace Cinemas showcasing an entertaining, exciting programme of inspiring and award-winning films in our handpicked Best Of Melbourne Shorts programme.

Selected for competition at Flickerfest Bondi, our Best Of Melbourne shorts programme features 9 local stories from an amazing bunch of talented Melbourne creatives; giving Flickerfest Melbourne audiences the first look at the hottest shorts films made and produced in their hometown.

Best Of Melbourne Shorts highlights include the hilarious urban comedy Room For One More where Alex must decide between saving his own life or pitching his brilliant short film idea to a friend, the moving What’s In A Name, by Kalu Oji, winner of the Spectrum Award For Best Direction at Flickerfest 2024, about an African Australian couple, who whilst taking part in a documentary discover fractures from another history. Cold Water, winner AFTRS Best Original Screenplay, set in St Kilda starring the legendary Bruce Spence and Lean In, the Specsavers Best Comedy award winner. ‘When feminist comedian Rach’s confidence is swayed by rejection from an agent she was so hungry for’.
