The Flickerfest tour is well and truly on the road!
A huge thank you to our wonderful Mullumbimby and Byron Shire audiences for filling the Mullumbimby Civic Hall across three big days and nights of Flickerfest screenings 26-28th Feb.
Our FlickerLab on tour served up an intimate and illuminating ‘Shorts to Long Form Content’ workshop featuring acclaimed director and actor Wayne Blair in conversation with Flickerfest Director Bronwyn Kidd. Wayne generously shared insights from his journey from short films to directing acclaimed features including The Sapphires and Top End Wedding, making for an inspiring afternoon for local filmmakers and film lovers alike.
The weekend also celebrated the 21st Byron All Shorts Northern Rivers Short Film Competition, which screened to a capacity crowd on Saturday afternoon, showcasing 11 outstanding local films.

Next Stops On The Flickerfest National Tour This March: Nambour, Gold Coast, Armidale, Kempsey, Port Macquarie and Sawtell

Shining in front & behind the camera on Flickerfest tour: Miriam Margolyes, Renée Zellweger & Stephen Fry
The Flickerfest National Tour continues across Queensland and regional NSW this March, bringing The Cream Of Short Films to six fantastic venues.
These special screenings feature standout highlights from our recent Bondi festival; award-winning shorts, Australian premieres and powerful stories from both local and international filmmakers.
Here’s a few of the standout Best Of Australian Shorts that shine, including the moving drama Tuesday Tuesday starring Peter Phelps, Packed Away directed by Michala Banas, and Baby Shower, written and directed by Matt Day and starring Hugo Weaving. With local films fresh from Flickerfest also featuring at various locations.
The Best of International Shorts programme, will take audiences around the world, including two Oscar® nominated shorts, A Friend of Dorothy starring Miriam Margolyes & Stephen Fry and The Singers a surprising drama starring a host of non actors in a heartwarming tale of hope. Catch them alongside Flickerfest award winner My Plastic Mother and the visually striking animation Radix. Plus, don’t miss They the directorial debut from Academy Award® winning actress Renée Zellweger. This charming and uplifting film follows a group of neighbours who come together during a challenging moment, finding connection and humour in unexpected ways.
These Best of International Shorts & Best of Australian Shorts programmes will screen at all venues below; except Sawtell who will feature our Short Laughs Comedy programme.
NAMBOUR
Wednesday 25 – Thursday 26 March | Nambour Cinema
Flickerfest returns to Nambour Cinema for two spectacular nights showcasing the Best of International Shorts programme Wed 25th March and the Best of Australian Shorts -Nambour programme, Thur 26th March.
A highlight of the Best Of Australian Shorts programme, screening Thur 26 Mar, 7pm is the hilarious Laterz directed by QLD born & raised Chelsea Ingram, who grew up on the Sunshine Coast and attended Buderim Mountain Primary School. Fresh from winning Best Comedy Short Film at Flickerfest 2026, Laterz is guaranteed to have audiences laughing.

Thursday 26 March | HOTA – Home of the Arts
Flickerfest returns to the Gold Coast for a special screening of the Best of Australian Shorts – Gold Coast programme, Thur 26 Mar, 7pm at HOTA, celebrating some of the country’s most exciting film-making talent.
Alongside our audience favourites and award winners, this year’s programme will also shine a spotlight on local Queensland filmmakers, including the powerful drama Flame, written and directed by Katrina Channels, and Half Past Midnight, a Gold Coast-made love story with a twist from Gold Coast resident, writer/director Daniel Bibby.

Flickerfest also returns to the Belgrave Movies in Armidale for two nights of award-winning shorts with the Best of International Shorts on Fri 27 Mar, 7pm.
The Best of Australian Shorts Armidale programme on Sat 28 Mar, 7pm includes a special local connection with The Gathering Light, written and directed by Armidale-raised filmmaker Xavier Masson-Leach fresh from its Bondi world premiere. This quietly poetic film follows a poet-fisherman on the Hawkesbury River during a solitary night of fishing, starring the legendary Chris Haywood.
