FLiCKERFEST HEADS TO THE GOLD COAST

Flickerfest will return once again to the Gold Coast next Wednesday 23rd of March with a one night only celebration of short film at HOTA (Home of The Arts).  The Best of Australian Shorts programme features the delightful black comedy Stonefish from Currumbin resident and rising Australian acting talent George Pullar who has written, produced and stars in ‘Stonefish’, his first short film.  The film also saw actress Megan Smart (Wakefield, Home & Away) step behind the camera into the directors chair.  George Pullar will be joining us at the screening to introduce his film and also partake in a Q&A with Flickerfest Festival Director Bronwyn Kidd following the screening.



FLiCKERFEST HITS GUNNEDAH

Flickerfest makes a stunning return over two jam-packed Thursday’s at The Civic in Gunnedah.

Landing on Thursday 24th March is the Best of Australian Shorts programme featuring the Gunnedah premiere of the winner of our Academy® Qualifying Panasonic LUMIX Award for Best Australian Short film and the AVID award for Best Original Music at #flickerfest2022, the stunning Giantswhich filmed at both the Cattle Sale Yards in Gunnedah and at the Rees family farm in Murrumbilla over a period of 18 months.  The film’s local producer Steven Rees will be in attendance at the screening to introduce the film alongside co-producer Nonny Klaile and director Eddy Bell.

The Tour will return the following week, Thursday 31st March to share the stunning Best of International Shorts programme with local Gunnedah audiences..  



FLiCKERFEST BANGALOW FLOOD FUNDRAISER

Following the dire impact of the recent flooding in the Northern Rivers town of Mullumbimby, the Flickerfest 2022 tour to the Northern Rivers has a new home, back at its previous venue, the A&I Hall in Bangalow whilst it’s home at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall is used for flood recovery.

Hence, Flickerfest in collaboration with The Island Quarry will present their satellite event at The A & I Hall in Bangalow from Thursday 31st March to Saturday 2nd April sharing a smorgasbord of over 40 incredible short films across three fabulous days and four jam packed programmes.

The event launches on Thursday 31st March with opening night drinks and pizza on arrival followed by the Best of International Shorts programme of award-winning and spell binding shorts from across the globe including the fabulous Roy, starring BAFTA award winning UK actor David Bradley (Game of Thrones, Harry Potter).

Friday 1st April the Best of Australian Shorts hits the big screen featuring shorts selected from Flickerfest’s seven programmes in our Academy® Qualifying Australian competition in Bondi including locally connected highlights such as the stunning Beautiful They from local director Cloudy Rhodes, who grew up in Mullumbimby and now lives in Lennox Head.

On Saturday afternoon 2nd April we are thrilled to present the Byron All Shorts programme.  Returning for its 17th year, the programme presents the Best Of Northern Rivers Shorts in competition with12 incredible local short films will screening including The Rock Pool Waltz by 15 year old Lennox head resident Marlon Denning, which was awarded Best High School film at the SAE FlickerUp Youth competition at Flickerfest Bondi.

We wrap things up on Saturday evening 2nd April with the Short Laughs Comedy programme featuring the delightful comedy Don Vs Lightning,starring the legendary Peter Mullan as Don, who just wants a quiet in the Scottish highlands, alas life has other plans, Nash Edgerton’s clever comedyShark starring Nash and Rose Byrne.

Flickerfest Bangalow & Byron All Shorts 2022 is a fund-raiser for local flood recovery for the Koori Mail’s rebuild and recovery of many indigenous families throughout the Bundjalung Nation and the Mullumbimby Neighbourhood centres local rebuild and recovery initiatives.

FLiCKERFEST TOUR VENUES COMING SOON!

Flickerfest will be landing at venues across Australia over the coming weeks including taking the Short Laughs Comedy programme to The J in Noosa on Thursday 31st March and landing at the Cygnet Town Hall in Cygnet over one weekend with the Best of Australian Shorts programme on the 2nd and 3rd of April.

We return once again to The Regent Cinema in Murwillumbah on Sunday the 3rd of April to present both the Best of Australian Shorts and Best of International Shorts programmes and on the same day we present a free community screening of the Best of Australian Shorts programme at the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre in Goulburn.
