SENSATIONAL SATURDAY AT FLiCKERFEST

Flickerfest was super thrilled to roll out the red carpet and our opening night event at the newly renovated Bondi Pavilion under the stars last night. A little rain didn’t dampen our spirits and the show rolled on with an epic outdoor and indoor screening experience, all in the one night!  followed by a fabulously fun party. Opening night pics coming soon! 

Today at Flickerfest we have a huge Saturday of shorts.  Check out the first of our International and Australian programmes in competition, with 4 incredible screenings rolling out from 130pm. Meet the filmmakers and view the first series of creative and masterful short films officially selected for Flickerfest 2023, all vying for a number of prestigious awards recognising excellence in the short film form.

Grab a delicious snack pre or post screening from Glory Days and a chilled beverage including Four Pillars GinGage Roads BrewingRosnay Organic Wines and PS Organic juices to enjoy overlooking the Bondi sands or in your cinema seat.

At 1:30pm kick off your Sunday at Flickerfest with a trip around the world. Check out our Best of International 2 programme and see the films vying for the Academy® Qualifying Best International Short Film & Best International Animated Short Film. From the beaches of Bondi head to the beaches of San Sebastian and join Eli and her friends as they enjoy a day of sun, sand and laughter in the international premiere of the heartwarming and uplifting Spanish short  La Concha, from director Leire Apellaniz.

At 4pm catch the first of two stunning programmes of real life stories in Best of Documentary 1, featuring 8 stunning shorts all vying for the Academy® Qualifying Best Documentary Short Film. Dont miss  the visually arresting and moving animated short More Than I Want To Remember, currently shortlisted for an Oscar from Dir/Wri/Prod Amy Bench, which explores the long journey of Mugeni from the Congo to the USA and back again as she searches to find her family after an attack in her Congo Village forced her to flee.

At 6:30pm catch the final short documentary competition, Best of Documentary 2 and see the films vying for the Academy® Qualifying Best Documentary Short Film. Check out the Ukrainian documentary Liturgy Of Anti-Tank Obstacles, screened at TIFF and about to screen at Sundance. Discover the awe-inspiring story of skilled sculptors who use their artistic talents for a greater purpose, creating powerful anti-tank obstacles to protect their nation during war time.

At 9PM catch the latest and most creative Australian shorts in our Best of Australian 4 programme under the stars. Join Tjarra and Reo in a thrilling first nations fight for survival against extra-terrestrial invaders in a post-apocalyptic world of 2057 where humanity is on the brink of extinction and hope is scarce in the NSW Premiere of Bunker: The Last Fleet and meet the filmmakers along to introduce their film.
