What a ride it’s been! Our Flickerfest National Tour will be wrapping up after an incredible journey across the country, and what a celebration of short film it’s been! From packed-out screenings to unforgettable stories shared under the stars, we’ve loved every minute. But it’s not over yet… there are just four more stops to go, Gunnedah, Cygnet, Broome & Cairns, so don’t miss your chance to catch the magic before the curtain closes on the Flickerfest 2025 National Tour. And that’s not all. Flickerfest turns 35 in 2026! We’re already gearing up for our biggest year yet, and you’re invited to be part of it. The Early Bird Call for Entries closes 15 August, so get in quick to take advantage of the special price. Then it’s on to Regular Entries (by 15 September) and Late Entries (by 15 October). Enter now!

Flickerfest Lights Up Gunnedah

Gunnedah, Flickerfest is rolling into The Civic this Sunday 3rd August with two unforgettable sessions of the best short films from Australia and around the world.

At midday, Start your day with the Best of Australian Shorts, a powerful and entertaining mix of bold, funny and moving stories from emerging and established Aussie filmmakers. Highlights include Marcia and The Shark, winner of Best Australian Short Film starring Tilda Cobham-Hervey, the beautifully crafted Best Animation winner The Fix-It-Man and Fix-It-Wooman from Alice Springs, and Candy Bar, a deliciously dark comedy from Nash Edgerton and Damon Herriman.

At 3pm, take a cinematic trip with the Best of International Shorts, fresh from their Australian premieres at Bondi. Enjoy award-winning stories from Belgium, China, Sweden, Germany, Ireland and more, including the Oscar-nominated Beautiful Men, the moving Me and Dad, and the gripping drama This Is Not A Character This Is Betrayal.

Join us for a one-day-only celebration of fresh, inspiring and award-winning short films from near and far.

If you missed Flickerfest in Hobart, never fear. We’re bringing the magic to Cygnet for two special nights at the Cygnet Town Hall. On Saturday 23 August at 7pm, the Best of Australian Shorts programme celebrates the very best of homegrown storytelling with a line-up of films that are clever, moving, funny and full of heart, including a touch of local Tassie talent.

Then on Saturday 30 August at 7pm, the Best of International Shorts programme takes you on a cinematic journey around the globe with a stunning selection of shorts that have been making waves from Bondi and beyond. Expect powerful dramas, unexpected laughs and stories that linger long after the final frame.

Whether you’re a long-time film lover or simply looking for an inspiring night out, Flickerfest in Cygnet is not to be missed.

Flickerfest is returning to Broome’s beloved Sun Pictures with two fantastic programmes fresh from our Bondi festival. On Friday 5th September, come along for a special night celebrating powerful Indigenous stories alongside the best short films from across Australia, including work from talented filmmakers with Western Australian connections.

The evening kicks off at 6:15pm with the Indigenous Spotlight Shorts, featuring eight compelling films from some of the most exciting Indigenous creators today. Celebrating WA talent, is the stunning Ornmol, wri/dir by Marlikka Perdrisat who grew up in Nyikina Country, Another standout is Farm Block A67 by Indigenous co-directors Simone Detourbet and Jason Haji -Ali, a young Yawuru man from The Kimberley, currently working in Perth. And don’t miss the intimate family doco Anangu Way by Local producer Brooke Collard.

Following that, at 8:30pm, the Best of Australian Shorts program presents a diverse mix of award-winning films from across the country, showcasing outstanding storytelling from filmmakers including Joan written and directed by WA’s own Emma Jackson.

Enjoy this one-night-only event beneath the stars at Sun Pictures, where local filmmakers, great films, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere come together for a memorable evening. Bring your friends and experience some of the finest short cinema celebrating our community and beyond.

This time to give talented Australian filmmakers an amazing opportunity to grab a camera and create their own lighthearted, witty and irreverent “Should’ve gone to Specsavers” 30 second TVC that may kickstart your commercial career.
