March was a whirlwind of cinematic magic as Flickerfest hit the road, lighting up ELEVEN incredible venues with the best in short film from Australia and around the world! A massive thank you to all the passionate film lovers who joined us, your energy and enthusiasm made every screening unforgettable. But the adventure isn’t over yet! April is shaping up to be just as spectacular as we bring the festival to Brisbane, Wollondilly, Melbourne, Newcastle, Alice Springs, Noosa, Lightning Ridge and Canowindra! First Up, Brisbane, 3rd & 4th April

Hey Brissie film lovers, we’re back! Flickerfest is rolling into town this week, bringing two jam-packed nights of incredible short films, from Aussie gems to international standouts. Whether you’re a film buff or just love a great night at the movies, you won’t want to miss this!
Thursday, 3rd April – A Celebration of Local Talent
Kick things off with the Best of Australian Shorts, showcasing the freshest and most exciting homegrown stories. Come by from 6:15pm for a welcome drink and a chance to chat with some of the filmmakers before the screening starts at 7pm. Gear up for standout Queensland-made films, including local favourites like All Of Us At River’s End, The “Conversation”, And The Ocean Agreed, Dragon’s Breath plus the hilarious The Hoist and Stranded. You’ll also catch some of this year’s Flickerfest award-winners, including The Fix-It-Man And Fix-It-Wooman and Marcia and The Shark.
Friday, 4th April – A Cinematic Journey Across the Globe
On Friday, we’re bringing you incredible stories from across the world, Croatia, Ireland, Senegal, Belgium and beyond! The Best of EU Showcase features a handpicked selection of Europe’s finest short films, including the stunning Belgian animation Beautiful Men (a Flickerfest 2025 winner and Oscars nominee!), the heartwarming Irish tale Me And Dad, and the gripping German drama This Is Not A Character This Is Betrayal.

Wollondilly, Welcome to the National Tour, 6th April!

For the first time ever, Flickerfest is thrilled to be heading to Wollondilly! Join us on Sunday, 6th April at 6pm at the Wollondilly Performing Arts Centre for a fantastic evening of world-class short films.
The Best of Australian Shorts program is packed with some of the festival’s favourite films and award winners, showcasing the incredible talent of both emerging and established Australian filmmakers. One of the highlights is Over, the winner of Best Short Comedy at Flickerfest Bondi. Shot and produced in the Wollongong area, this heartwarming comedy follows a father who must confront his apathy when his disabled son steals his boat and refuses to come back until his dad saves the world. Directed by Flickerfest alumni Duncan Ragg and Anna Phillips, and starring James Carey in his film debut, it’s a must-see!
Flickerfest in Wollondilly is a one-night-only event you won’t want to miss. Grab your tickets, bring your friends, and get ready to be inspired, entertained, and swept away by the magic of short film!

We’re thrilled to be returning to the Kino Palace Cinema, Melbourne on Thursday, April 10th, with our Best of Melbourne Shorts for an unforgettable evening of short films! Doors open at 6:15 pm, and we can’t wait to welcome you as we raise a glass to celebrate the incredible talent driving Melbourne’s dynamic short film industry. After mingling, settle in for a spectacular showcase of fresh local voices and award-winning films in what promises to be a night full of creativity, inspiration, and cinematic magic!The program includes nine exciting VIC films, fresh from their premieres at Flickerfest Bondi. You’ll experience the stunning work of local talented cast and crews including Jesse Vogelaar’s, Accoladia and Ahmad Ebrahimi’s Echoes, along with End Pointe directed by Lesley Pinder and Different Things by Melbourne’s Murray Enders. Plus, The Manic Helm by Alexander Peter Lercher, This Must Be Love by Bus Stop Films, and Stranded directed by Reilly Archer-Whelan and Michael Whyntie, featuring a Melbourne-based cast and crew. Don’t miss Asian Male, 60s, LEAD, directed by Charlotte Nicdao, which won the Avid Award for Best Original Music in an Australian Short Film, and A Good Boy, directed by Ras Samuel, which took home the prestigious John Barry Award for Best Cinematography at Flickerfest Bondi 2025.This is your chance to enjoy an evening packed with some of Melbourne’s most creative and inspiring short films, all in one place. Alice Springs Under The Stars, 11th & 12th April

Flickerfest is excited to return to Alice Springs, bringing an incredible selection of award-winning films to Araluen Arts Centre Circus Lawns, all under the stars! Join us for two fantastic programmes, Best of Australian Shorts and Short Laughs Comedy, showcasing the best in storytelling from across the globe and some fresh, exciting local talent.On Friday, 11th April at 7:30pm, don’t miss the Best Of Australian Shorts programme, which celebrates the diversity and richness of Australian storytelling. It’s a chance to see our unique culture through the eyes of some of our most talented filmmakers. One of the highlights is The Fix-It-Man And Fix-It-Wooman, a heartwarming animation that won the Yoram Gross Award for Best Australian Animation, created by artists from the Yarrenyty Arltere Town Camp right here in Alice Springs. Watch as two soft sculptures try to impress each other with their dance moves! Also featured is Marcia and The Shark, winner of the Panasonic Award for Best Australian Short Film, starring Tilda Cobham-Hervey in a beautiful and gripping story. The Dog, starring Kate Walshe, delivers a powerful performance, while Candy Bar a black Australian comedy from Nash Edgerton, is sure to have you laughing with its sharp wit and memorable characters.
Then on Saturday, 12th April at 7:30pm, we have the Short Laughs Comedy programme, packed with quirky and hilarious short films from Australia and around the world. Don’t miss Nelson the Piglet, a charming Dutch film about a miniature pig who becomes the talk of the town and wins the Jury Prize for Best Short Documentary at Flickerfest 2025. You’ll also enjoy The Head On Him, a hilarious Irish film about a biracial boy who moves to a small town and struggles to tame his afro to fit in—only to find it grows back bigger than ever.It’s going to be a great couple of nights of incredible films under the stars. Flickerfest is buzzing to be back in Newcastle, bringing an unforgettable night of top-notch short films to the Civic Playhouse Theatre on Saturday, 12th April. For one night only, experience two incredible programs packed with the best short filmmaking from Australia and around the world.The Best Of Australian Shorts programme shines a light on the richness of Aussie storytelling, including Pending Pick Up, a playful dive into the world of Facebook Marketplace thrifting by Newcastle’s own Andy Gallagher. Growing up in Medowie and now based in Eleebana, Andy brings a local flair to this year’s lineup.
Alongside this, the program features a brilliant mix of award winners and festival highlights, showcasing the incredible depth of Australian filmmaking. Between sessions mingle and enjoy a complimentary Gage Roads beer or Rosnay Organic wine.
Later in the evening, the Short Laughs Comedy program promises plenty of big laughs and feel-good vibes, serving up a hilarious mix of comedies from Australia, Slovakia, Spain, and beyond. From quirky and offbeat to sharp and satirical, these films bring together a world of humour, guaranteed to leave you grinning.Join us for an unmissable night of film, fun, and fantastic storytelling at the Civic Playhouse Theatre on Saturday, 12th April.
